Email developers: does your agent respect the template?
JN
Jacob Nilsson@kelpstrand · Email developer
I build the email templates the marketers fill. Since the writing agents arrived, the copy arrives faster and breaks the template more often: a headline that is three lines long, a button label of nine words, a paragraph where the template has a one-line slot.
We fixed most of it by giving the agent the slot lengths. Headline: 45 characters. Button: 3 words. It respects a number far better than it respects 'keep it short'.
Anyone else on the developer side of this? What else did you have to tell it?

We give it the slot lengths and a rendered screenshot of the template. The screenshot helped more than I expected.

CRM side: we also tell it which slots are personalised and must not be rewritten. It kept rewriting the merge field.

Numbers, not adjectives, applies to layout too. 'Short' means nothing; '45 characters' means 45 characters.

Marketing coordinator, new. I am the person who used to fix the broken headlines by hand. Thank you for this thread.
